Police Foil Terrorist Attack on Taunsa Check-Post, One Militant Killed

TAUNSA, March 18, 2025 – A terrorist attack on a police checkpoint in Jhangi town, near the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border, was successfully repelled by security forces late Sunday night. One suspected militant was killed, while the others managed to escape, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Dera Ghazi Khan, Syed Ali Kazmi.

Details of the Attack

  • The terrorists launched rockets at the Jhangi police check-post in Taunsa.
  • Thermal cameras were used by police to detect the attackers and respond effectively.
  • No police casualties were reported.

This marks the eighth terrorist attack in Punjab-KP border areas this month, highlighting the growing security concerns in the region.

Recent Counter-Terrorism Operations

The attack comes days after Punjab Police conducted a major operation in Rahim Yar Khan’s Katcha area, killing two notorious dacoits:

  • Shah Mir alias Meera Kosh
  • Hakim Kosh

These criminals were accused of orchestrating the August 2024 Machka attack, in which 12 police officials were martyred when their convoy was ambushed with rocket launchers.

Rising Terror Threat in Pakistan

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp increase in terrorism-related incidents, as reflected in the Global Terrorism Index 2025 report:

  • Ranked as the 2nd most terrorism-affected country (previously 4th).
  • Terrorism-related deaths surged by 45% in 2024, rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024.

The escalation of attacks underscores urgent security challenges along Pakistan’s border regions. Authorities remain on high alert as counter-terror operations intensify.
