The pre-budget session titled “Shaping a Prosperous Future” was organized by Bahria Humanities and Social Sciences School on Thursday, 22nd May 2025 at Bahria University Karachi Campus. The Panelists emphasized the need for Pakistan to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic growth through fiscal discipline, governance reforms, human capital investment, and digital economy expansion to meet the challenges of narrow tax base, weak governance, and labor market issues, with proposed reforms including expanding the tax net, improving public sector efficiency, and investing in youth-centric policies, digital infrastructure, and entrepreneurship.
The strategic recommendations from the session include broadening the tax base to ensure all segments of society contribute to the national exchequer, improving governance to enhance public sector efficiency and accountability, allocating significant budget shares to education and health to address pressing issues, fostering a robust IT ecosystem to unlock new opportunities for economic growth, and encouraging private sector-led growth through venture capital and startup support to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship.
The session was graced by Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Federal Minister for Investment, as the Chief Guest, along with esteemed panelists including Mr. Zubair Tufail, Industrialist/CEO Tufail Chemicals Ltd. /Former President FPCCI; Mr. Abdul Qadir Memon, Former President, Pakistan Tax Bar Association; Asad Ali Shah, Financial Consultant/Chairman BeFiler; and Ali Kabir Shah, Former International Vice President Asian Patent Attorneys Association. The session was moderated by Imran Sultan from Aaj News. The session ended with the vote of thanks by Director General Bahria University Karachi Campus, Rear Admiral Muhammad Zubair Shafique HI (M).The session provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on Pakistan’s economic future, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts to address the country’s economic challenges. The recommendations and insights shared during the session are expected to contribute to informed policy-making and shape a prosperous future for Pakistan.
