KARACHI: Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has said that Pakistan People’s Party Government moving forward with Civil Society to strengthen its Public-Private Partnership to improve health care services in Sindh Province when she was inaugurating a new state of the art MRI Machine at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Trauma Center, Karachi.
The institute also celebrated completing 5 years of successful trauma management and treatment. Secretary Health, Zulfiqar Shah,Vice Chancellor DUHS Professor Dr. Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, M.S Civil Hospital Karachi Dr. Rubina, SSMB board member Mahar Panjwani, Mushtaq Chapra was also present at the occasion.
SMBB Trauma Center was established in September, 2016 and is celebrating 5 years of its excellent services, one of the best health care emergency centre of Asia.
Approximately 400 emergencies are seen daily by the institute and treated free of cost having a low mortality rate.
Aside from ER services the trauma center has expanded into clinical services that include ancillary, bio infectious, waste management, bioengineering, Medical Research and only Public sector tertiary care hospital in the field of Vascular surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho stated that SMBB should be the standard by which other trauma centers should be measured and managed. SMBB Trauma Center should act as a parent institute to other trauma response centers so we can progress further in treating trauma injuries in the province.
The Minister for Health added further that, Road traffic injuries are the primary cause for most of the trauma injuries in Sindh, which is why Sindh Health Department has been working on Rapid Response Centers along the highway so that all such injuries can be attended to immediately, offered emergency care and then shifted to the nearest tertiary hospitals. She lauded the services of Dr. Sabir Memon who is working here as Chief Operating Officer since from its establishment who develop proper professional sub specialties at SSMB.
She concluded by saying that as we take pride in SSMB as a flagship institution of Sindh, serving the province, “I strongly feel that this institution should be seen as a true embodiment of the Sindh government”.
Earlier, Dr Afshan Bano and Dr. Zehra gave the presentation of expansion of the hospital and 5 years of service at SMBB Trauma Center.
