Qatar to Invest $3 Billion in Pakistan, Says Attaullah Tarar

Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting, National Heritage, and Culture, Attaullah Tarar, announced on Friday that Qatar is set to invest $3 billion in Pakistan across various sectors. This investment is expected to boost Pakistan’s economy significantly and deliver benefits to the general public. Tarar disclosed that a Qatari delegation would soon visit Pakistan to finalize this investment, addressing a news conference that also highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Tarar stated that Pakistan’s economy is stabilizing, citing a drop in inflation to 6.9 percent, record remittances, lower interest rates, and increased investment flow. He noted that Pakistan has achieved a fiscal surplus for the first time in 24 years.

The minister also highlighted the achievements of Prime Minister Sharif’s prior visit to Saudi Arabia, which saw the signing of 27 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth $2.2 billion. These agreements were made during a high-level Saudi delegation’s visit, led by Minister for Investment Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al Falih, and involved productive government-to-government and business-to-business engagements.

Tarar reported that Prime Minister Sharif’s subsequent meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the eighth session of the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh further solidified bilateral relations. The talks between both countries resulted in an increase in the number of MoUs to 34 and raised the investment amount to $2.8 billion.

This added investment is expected to benefit Pakistan’s mining, energy, agriculture, livestock, IT, and human resource sectors. Tarar expressed optimism that the additional $600 million from Saudi investments would positively impact the national economy.

During his visit to Qatar, Prime Minister Sharif attended an exhibition showcasing Pakistani artwork from 1947 to the present day, featuring renowned Pakistani artists, including architect Nayar Ali Dada. Tarar noted that the visit highlighted the strong bond between the Qatari emir and Prime Minister Sharif, evident from the warm reception received.

Responding to questions, Tarar criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government as “non-serious,” pointing out its alleged shortcomings in health, infrastructure, and other public service sectors. He expressed confidence that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would soon hold their leaders accountable for their lack of initiatives. Tarar emphasized the federal government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, underscoring that maintaining security is a top priority.
