Quetta Administration Denies PTI Rally Request Citing Security Concerns

The Quetta district administration has denied Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request to hold a public rally on Saturday, despite an alleged court order in favor of the gathering. The decision was attributed to ongoing security concerns in the region.

Rally Request Denied

  • PTI had planned a public rally at Quetta’s Hockey Ground, and formally requested permission from the city administration.
  • Quetta Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saad bin Asad cited law and order issues, as well as the ongoing public service commission exams at Ayub National Stadium and scheduled sports events at the Hockey Ground, as reasons for rejecting the request.
  • The DC warned that any attempts to hold the rally in defiance of the order would face legal action.

PTI Responds to Denial

  • A PTI provincial spokesperson stated that a court order had directed the local administration to facilitate a venue for the rally, accusing the DC of deliberately delaying the process.
  • Despite the rejection in Quetta, PTI has been making alternative arrangements and preparations for rallies elsewhere in the country.

PTI’s Rally Plan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • PTI is set to hold a public gathering near Swabi Interchange instead, as announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
  • Originally scheduled for November 8 in Peshawar, the rally has now been rescheduled to November 9, and will be held as a “power show” ahead of a potential final push against the current government.
  • Gandapur, while addressing the press outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, expressed frustration over the treatment of PTI supporters, citing arrests and harsh actions by authorities.

Rally Preparations

  • PTI’s district president Suhail Yousufzai shared that 10,000 to 15,000 chairs have been arranged for the Swabi rally.
  • The event will feature key party figures, including Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, KP Chief Minister, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, and Asad Qaiser as speakers.
  • The chief minister is expected to announce the party’s next steps during the rally.

The denial of permission for the rally in Quetta comes amidst heightened political tension and ongoing legal disputes between PTI and the local administration. PTI appears determined to press forward with its campaign activities, seeking alternative venues and rallying its supporters in other regions.
