Temperature may soar to 38°C; thunderstorms expected amid high humidity
KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in various parts of Karachi today (Monday), offering some respite after a prolonged heat spell.
In its latest advisory, the PMD said the city will remain partly cloudy and humid over the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 36°C and 38°C, while humidity levels stand at 73%. Warm northwesterly winds are currently blowing at a speed of 3 km/h.
The minimum temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was 30°C.
The forecast follows an earlier PMD alert issued on June 13, warning that a pre-monsoon weather system was likely to impact eastern Sindh, including Karachi, from Saturday evening onwards.
Meanwhile, a western weather system affecting upper and central parts of the country is expected to persist through Sunday and Monday, bringing isolated dust storms and thunderstorms to parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rainfall has already been recorded in several cities, including Gujrat, Mangla, Sialkot, Islamabad, Murree, Kalam, Dir, Rawalakot, and Gupis.
On Saturday, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at Turbat and Pasni, where mercury soared to 49°C.
