‘Saba’ Heads to Sweden: When Will It Release in Bangladesh?

Maksud Hossain’s film Saba, starring Mehazabien Chowdhury, is set for its European premiere at the 48th Göteborg International Film Festival in Sweden. The film previously had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, followed by its Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea. It was also selected for the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.

The Göteborg International Film Festival will begin on January 24, where Saba will be showcased in the Voice section, which honors emerging filmmakers. Director Maksud Hossain shared his excitement, saying, “Our journey started with Toronto last year, and the momentum has continued. The response from festival organizers and critics has been overwhelming. It’s a great achievement for us. We are also thrilled to announce that Saba will soon have its premieres in the United States and Australia.”

Saba revolves around a tragic road accident that occurred two decades ago. A 12-year-old girl and her mother are injured in the incident, leaving the girl traumatized and the mother wheelchair-bound. The film delves into the aftermath of this life-altering accident.

Rokeya Prachy plays the role of the mother, while Mehazabien Chowdhury portrays the daughter. Mostafa Monwar plays a pivotal role in the story.

When asked about the film’s release in Bangladesh, Maksud Hossain revealed plans to release it between the two Eid festivals, aiming to bring the story to local audiences soon.
