Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, has firmly denied any involvement in the events of May 9 or in the politics of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Speaking from abroad, where he is currently on vacation, Nisar stated, “I swear I have nothing to do with May 9 and the PTI and its politics.”
In an exclusive conversation with The News, Nisar addressed the allegations and rumors circulating about his connections with former DGISI Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. He confirmed that while he did have social interactions with Gen Faiz, including attending his daughter’s wedding and exchanging pleasantries on various occasions, he categorically distanced himself from any political or controversial activities.
Nisar further clarified that during his tenure as Chief Justice, Gen Faiz would occasionally meet with his registrar and send him “for eyes only” messages, but emphasized that there was never any request for something illegal or inappropriate. “He always respected me and was kind to me,” Nisar said.
Referring to the May 9 events and the ongoing political turmoil, Nisar stressed that he has no connection to the accusations being leveled against him on social media and by certain elements. “I have nothing to worry about,” he asserted, revealing that he plans to return to Pakistan on September 5.
In response to a report published by The News on Monday, which suggested that Nisar and Gen Faiz were in contact and that Nisar is under scrutiny by the authorities, the former Chief Justice reiterated that their relationship was purely social. The report, while confirming their contact, did not clarify whether their interactions had any political or criminal implications.
Nisar also mentioned that during a difficult time last year, when Aitzaz Ahsan was unable to access his Zaman Park residence in Lahore due to the situation surrounding Imran Khan’s residence, Ahsan would visit Nisar’s office. He added that these visits, as well as occasional visits from Khawaja Tariq Raheem, were of a social nature and had no political undertones.
While the report hinted that Saqib Nisar is on the radar of authorities and that they might have some material against him, Nisar maintained his innocence and reiterated his lack of involvement in the events of May 9 or PTI’s political activities.
