ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, along with SCBA Senior Vice President Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi and Balochistan Bar Council member Khalil Panezai, met with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Thursday.
Atta commended the CJP for his initiatives aimed at improving judicial efficiency, which have significantly reduced case backlog. He also appreciated the recent meeting between the CJP and Prime Minister, which focused on judicial and legal reforms essential for establishing an effective judicial system.
Calling the reforms a necessity for timely justice at the grassroots level, Atta stressed the importance of consistent implementation to maximize their impact. He reaffirmed SCBA’s full confidence and support for the CJP, praising his efforts to enhance judicial effectiveness.
Meanwhile, PTI parliamentary leader in the Senate, Barrister Ali Zafar, commented on the meeting, stating that the judiciary should remain apolitical. Speaking on Geo News’ Capital Talk, Zafar said such meetings should be rare to avoid political perceptions.
“The CJP should not make such meetings a routine practice, as it gives the impression of political involvement,” he remarked. He confirmed that the chief justice had invited the opposition for discussions and that he would be part of the delegation meeting the CJP in Islamabad.
Zafar acknowledged that this was an unusual development, as he had never seen a chief justice engage with both government and opposition representatives in such a manner. He suggested that the meeting might be an attempt to foster consensus between the two sides.
Addressing PTI’s planned public gathering, Zafar assured that there would be no clash with the ongoing ICC event. However, he claimed that PTI was facing restrictions on holding rallies in Punjab.
