ISLAMABAD: In a powerful expression of patriotism and national solidarity, Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, a senior member of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, announced a personal donation of Rs10 million to the Shuhada (Martyrs) Fund during a session of the Senate today.
Speaking on the Senate floor, Senator Chishti emphasized his unwavering commitment to the nation, stating: “When it comes to serving the nation, money is just a number.” The gesture was widely lauded across party lines as a significant symbol of unity and support for the families of Pakistan’s martyrs amidst rising regional challenges.
The announcement came during a session marked by strong bipartisan solidarity with the armed forces. Senator Aimal Wali joined Senator Chishti in a show of unity, while Senator Robina Qaimkhani strongly condemned India’s aggressive policies, referring to India as a “terrorist state” and praising the bravery and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Affiliated with MQM-P, Senator Chishti has earned recognition for his leadership in public service, especially in healthcare. As Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, he has been a driving force behind several major initiatives, including:
Combating Substandard Pharmaceuticals: Senator Chishti has raised concerns over low-quality drug production in Pakistan and has initiated legal action against multinational firms such as GlaxoSmithKline to ensure public safety.
Addressing healthcare workforce shortages, he continued to advocate for long-term solutions to the shortfall of over one million nurses and 40,000 non-practicing doctors in the country.
Revamping public healthcare infrastructure, his leadership has propelled efforts to refurbish institutions like Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and advance feasibility studies for transformative projects such as the Quaid-i-Azam Health Tower.
Senator Chishti’s contribution to the Shuhada Fund reinforces the ideals of national unity, selfless service, and respect for the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces. His actions set a benchmark for public representatives and underscore the importance of rising above political divisions in times of national need.
