Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors. The high-level dialogue covered economic cooperation, regional stability, climate change, and mutual interests on the global stage.

Statements of Commitment

Shehbaz expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support in humanitarian and development efforts. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the UAE’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with Pakistan for regional peace and progress.

In a social media post, Shehbaz reaffirmed the resolve to elevate Pak-UAE ties into a strategic partnership, focusing on investment and shared development.

Addressing Corruption in Lesco

Separately, Shehbaz ordered an investigation into illegal reinstatements of officers dismissed for corruption in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco).

  • A high-level committee will complete its investigation within 10 days.
  • Allegations include bribery in officer rehiring and purchasing equipment from an international firm.
  • Earlier, Nepra fined Lesco Rs10 million for failing to meet safety directives, including the required earthing of utility poles.

The meeting with Sheikh Mohammed and actions against corruption highlight Shehbaz’s commitment to both international cooperation and domestic accountability.
