Sindh’s Bold Move to Empower Women: Free Electric Scooties Up for Grabs!

In a groundbreaking step towards women empowerment and sustainable transport, the Government of Sindh has launched a progressive initiative through its Transport and Mass Transit Department that promises to reshape urban mobility for women across the province. Aimed at enhancing freedom, safety, and convenience, this scheme will distribute free electric pink scooties to eligible women—providing not just a vehicle, but a symbol of independence.

What’s the Vision Behind the Scheme?

Mobility has long been a barrier to opportunity for many women. Whether it’s the long commute to work or safety concerns after dark, public transport doesn’t always offer a viable solution. Recognizing this, the Sindh government is now taking direct action to change that reality. By offering electric scooters at zero cost, this initiative not only promotes gender equality but also supports eco-friendly transportation in urban areas.

Who Can Apply? Here’s the Eligibility Breakdown

To ensure that the initiative reaches those who truly need it, a set of clear eligibility criteria has been laid out. Women who wish to apply must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a permanent resident of Sindh.

  • Be a student or a working woman actively contributing to society.

  • Hold a valid driving license—either for a motorbike or a car.

  • Agree not to sell or rent out the scooty for a period of at least seven years.

  • Successfully pass a road safety skill test, which will be required if selected in the final draw.

This ensures that each scooty goes to someone who genuinely intends to use it and benefit from the freedom it offers.

Free Training – Because Safety Comes First

Understanding that many women might not have hands-on experience riding two-wheelers, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) has taken an inclusive approach by offering free training programs. These sessions will be conducted across various cities and districts of Sindh, making them accessible to a wide range of participants.

The training will include:

  • Basic riding skills for electric scooters

  • Road safety education

  • Traffic rules and practical riding tips

The aim is to boost confidence and ensure all riders hit the road with the skills they need to travel safely.

Transparent Distribution Process – No Favors, Just Fairness

To avoid any doubts of bias or favoritism, the government has announced that the scooties will be distributed through a transparent balloting system. This process will be carefully monitored by print and electronic media, ensuring that everything is carried out fairly and publicly.

Additionally, a special oversight committee has been formed to handle the distribution. This committee comprises members from multiple departments, including:

  • The Excise Department

  • The Transport Department

  • The Finance Department

  • Representatives from the media

Such a diverse panel is expected to add layers of accountability and neutrality to the entire process.

A Step Forward for Sindh’s Women

With this initiative, the Sindh government is sending a powerful message: women deserve safe, reliable, and independent means of transport. By offering electric scooties, backed with training and a fair distribution process, the province is not only investing in women—it’s investing in a better, more inclusive future.

This isn’t just about transportation; it’s about transformation. And for many women across Sindh, that journey of empowerment may soon begin on two pink electric wheels.
