Karachi, September 2024 — The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced the successful conclusion of its highly anticipated art competition for the designs of the new banknote series. In a statement released by the central bank, the SBP expressed appreciation for the remarkable creativity and talent exhibited by local artists and designers who participated in this significant initiative.
“We (SBP) are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Art Competition for the designs of the new banknote series. We appreciate the local artists and designers who participated in the competition, showcasing their creativity and talent in this important endeavor,” the central bank said.
The SBP highlighted that the designs were carefully evaluated through a rigorous process led by a committee of esteemed experts from relevant fields, ensuring that the highest standards were upheld in the selection. After the evaluation, several designs were shortlisted for further consideration.
The SBP further noted that while the shortlisted designs are suggestive in nature, they will be shared with international designers who are now tasked with refining the concepts and collaborating with the central bank to finalize the new currency note designs. The collaboration with international designers is part of a broader effort to ensure that the final banknotes reflect both local artistry and global standards in currency design.

The international designers along with the SBP officials will finalise designs for the new banknote series.
“The International designers, while drawing inspiration from the local art submissions, will, however, be free to employ their own design expertise and imagination to create final designs for the new banknotes series,” the central bank added.

It read that the SBP will ensure that the new banknote series reflects the rich cultural heritage and progressive vision of our nation, and hopes the final designs fully reflects this collaborative effort.
“Winners will be awarded prize money, as per earlier announcement, to appreciate their contribution to this important national project,” the statement said.
