KHAIRPPUR MIRS: In a groundbreaking initiative to combat child early marriages and promote girls’ education in Khairpur Mirs, Sindh, Pakistan, a Karachi based NGO Aahung has taken the lead with generous support of the Education Champions Network Project. Under the leadership of Sheena Hadi, Aahung has organized a series of street theaters aimed at raising awareness about the consequences of child early marriages and advocating for the importance of girls’ education. This initiative is part of a larger effort to reduce dropout rates, address gender-based violence, and empower young girls in the district.
Aahung’s Life Skills Education Department, led by Dr. Sana Amir Ali, along with her dedicated team including Nazo Pirzada has been instrumental in implementing a comprehensive Life Skills-based education program in Khairpur, Sindh. This program focuses on equipping young girls with essential life skills that not only enhance their personal development but also empower them to make informed decisions regarding their education and future.
Aahung has collaborated closely with the District Government of Sindh, to ensure the successful implementation of their programs in Khairpur Mirs. Additionally, partnerships with organizations like Indus Schools of Knowledge and Sacho Theater Group have further strengthened the reach and impact of Aahung’s initiatives in the region.
Through engaging street theaters, Aahung has been able to reach out to communities in Khairpur Mirs effectively. These interactive performances serve as a powerful medium to educate both children and adults about the harmful effects of child early marriages, the importance of girls’ education, and ways to combat gender-based violence.
By raising awareness through creative means like street theaters, Dr. Sana and Aahung’s team is not only sparking important conversations within the community but also fostering a supportive environment for girls’ education and empowerment in Khairpur Mirs.
