KARACHI: Ignorance on part of PCB officials can be termed ‘comedy of errors’, during the third day of the first cricket Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand, when substitute player Mohammad Rizwan led the Pakistan team in place of Babar Azam who was not in the field due to a viral flu.
After it was pointed out that law does not permit a substitute player from being captain, the officials of Pakistan team initially said that Rizwan is acting captain, Rizwan was seen marshalling the field, in absence of Babar Azam and Sarfaraz is in charge to call the reviews.
The team management after being told that a substitute cannot lead the team on field, the officials of PCB after committing huge blunder and ignorance of laws said that Sarfraz Ahmed is leading the team not Mohammad Rizwan.
Meanwhile, Kiwis were 440 for the loss of 6 wickets of with Kane Williamson who played a great knock of 105 and remained unbeaten.
New Zealand took 2 runs lead after losing 2 wickets in each session. Tom Latham scored 113 runs before being dismissed by Abrar Ahmed. Devon Conway was unlucky to miss the century he was removed by Nauman Ali after he made 82 runs.
The other Kiwis batters who were sent back to pavilion were Tom Blundell 47, Daryl Mitchell 42, Henry Nicholls 22 and Michael Bracewell 5.
Abrar Ahmed took 3 wickets while Baunan Ali claimed 2 wickets.
