Tragic Gun Attack on School Van in Attock Claims Lives of 2 Children

In a heartbreaking incident on Wednesday, two children lost their lives, and five others were injured when armed assailants targeted a school van in Dheri Kot village, Attock, as reported by Geo News.

Rescue 1122 officials disclosed that the injured children, aged between five and 12 years, were promptly transported to the hospital for medical care. The tragic victims included a nine-year-old and a 10-year-old, while the injured children included two eight-year-olds, a seven-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a four-year-old.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has demanded a detailed report on the incident from Rawalpindi Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak. Expressing deep sorrow, the chief minister extended her condolences to the families affected and ordered the provision of the best possible medical treatment for the injured children.

Attock Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza, speaking to Geo News, revealed that the attack stemmed from a personal vendetta involving the van driver. Last month, a forest official and his companion were murdered due to this enmity, leading to the targeted assault on the van driver. Unfortunately, the children became collateral victims in this heinous act of revenge. Two girls, who were seated beside the driver, tragically lost their lives, while the driver sustained injuries.

A comprehensive search operation is currently underway by the police and local administration to apprehend the culprits behind this despicable crime.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack, labeling it as a “cruel” and “shameful” act. He urged the authorities to take swift and stern action against those responsible. Punjab Governor Saleem Haider Khan also expressed his profound grief over the incident, describing it as “heartbreaking” and calling for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This tragic event has left the community in mourning, highlighting the urgent need for justice and safety in the region.
