Minister of State for Finance, Ali Pervaiz Malik, revealed on Sunday that a Turkish airline has expressed interest in purchasing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Speaking on the Geo News program Naya Pakistan, Malik shared that this development comes as part of broader efforts to attract investments following progress towards macroeconomic stability.
He mentioned the nearing completion of Pakistan’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, which is expected to open doors to further investments and opportunities through global financial institutions. However, he cautioned that political stability is essential for continued economic progress.
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to reforms, especially in enhancing tax collection through the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) via automation and digitalization. He stated that expanding the tax base beyond the current 3 million to 30 million people is crucial for economic stability.
Additionally, Malik underlined the need for political cooperation, criticizing parties that obstruct national progress for political gains, and urging unity to address the country’s economic challenges.
