The United States has called for zero tolerance for sexual abuse and rape following the emergence of a disturbing video showing Israeli soldiers raping a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman detention camp, according to Anadolu.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller emphasized the U.S.’s firm stance on the matter, stating, “There ought to be zero tolerance for sexual abuse, rape of any detainee. Period.” He underscored the importance of fully investigating any such incidents and holding those responsible accountable.
Miller described the video and reports of sexual abuse at the Israeli detention center as “horrific,” stressing that the human rights of prisoners must be respected. He also acknowledged that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced an investigation and arrested several individuals allegedly involved in the incident. Miller urged that the investigation proceed swiftly to ensure justice.
