Women’s T20 World Cup Moved from Bangladesh to UAE

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh, will now take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament will be held across two venues in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20.

The shift comes in light of recent political instability in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country amid protests. An interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has assumed control.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed regret over the move, acknowledging the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) efforts to host the event. He cited travel advisories from participating teams’ governments as the primary reason for the relocation.

Despite the change, the BCB will retain hosting rights for future ICC events. Allardice also thanked the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in, and noted support offers from Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, with plans for ICC events in those countries in 2026.

The UAE, which houses the ICC headquarters, has become a prominent venue for cricket, hosting numerous qualifiers and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 alongside Oman.
