ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported 201 new fatalities due the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, which is the highest single-day death toll recorded since the pandemic started last year.
According to the official data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), which synergises government’s efforts against Covid-19, the death toll in the country reached 17,530 with the latest surge.
Pakistan reported the highest deaths on ventilators with 84 fatalities during the last twenty-four hours. There have been 1,045 deaths reported on ventilators since April 2021. In the last 10 days, 473 people on ventilators have lost their lives to coronavirus.
The national positivity ratio, the number of infections among those tested, has reached 10.8 percent. The death rate, the number of infections resulting in fatalities, hit the highest point since the start of the pandemic, reaching around 2.2 percent.
According to the NCOC, most deaths occurred in Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The NCOC further reported that at least 5,292 new coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s Covid-19 tally to 810,231. – TLTP
