How automobiles changed
The Ford Motor Company launched its iconic Ford Model T car on October 1, 1908. It was the first such car of its kind in the United States of America and the world. It was affordable and reshaped how transportation was carried out during those days. The Ford Motor Company was selling it at an affordable price. This was because the car units were being assembled on an assembly line instead of being crafted by hand.
The automobile industry that came into existence by the arrival of this car has come a long way indeed. Several companies across the world have been producing cars for various purposes. There are hatchbacks and coupes, convertibles and SUVs, station wagons and minivans, sedans, jeeps, and sports cars. They provide luxury and comfort and also help to transport goods, raw materials, and cargo, among others.
The evolution of human thought has accentuated over the years. Humans’ prowess has only increased with each experience that they gained. Imagine a world without airplanes. Without any previous history of human flight, The Wright Brothers conceived the idea of a flying machine. The concept was backed by trial and error but they eventually flew their plane in 1903. By that time cars were being used albeit in their primitive form.
The first form of the automobile was invented by Carl Benz in 1885. This invention was made possible because of the thought revolution that came forth after the invention of the steam engine. The invention of the car, however, drastically changed the economy. Not only the factories and production units needed human labor, but the automobile industry also became the principal force behind the development of the oil and gas sector.
Automobiles also helped people to relocate from their places of birth to settle in new areas. This promoted travel and tourism. Moreover, when people began populating previously unexplored areas, businesses opened up to provide them with products and services. Businesses too required transportation that was aided by the production of cargo trucks and containers.
As the world celebrates the 114th year of the invention of the Ford Model T car, we must cherish the advancements humans have made over the many years. We have invented cars that travel over the speeds of 300 km/hr., and have invented fighter jets that fly at supersonic speeds. Humans are planning to colonize Mars which will be made possible by transporting man and equipment.
Automobiles provided humans with the ease to commute whether it was going to their offices, to educational institutions, or for leisure purposes. Automobiles also became a part of wars and conflicts. Jeeps and trucks were used in World Wars and other battles to transport humans and weapons. The invention of the tank in the First World War was also based on the concept of a moving vehicle adapted by the automobile.
The concept of a car was once a dream. Who would have thought that one day the entire world will be using an object based on mechanical, physical, and chemical engineering? That it will use an engine and fuel mechanism for powering up and four sets of tires with a steering wheel with pedals to move and control it. Those who thought that riding horses was the fastest mode of traveling were not aware of the power of human thought.
