Govt Deploys Army Amid Violence at PTI Protest in Islamabad

The federal government has invoked Article 245 to deploy the military in Islamabad following violence during the ongoing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The Interior Ministry’s notification grants the army authority to impose curfews and deal with miscreants, including shoot-on-sight orders if necessary.

The decision follows a tragic incident on Srinagar Highway, where PTI protesters allegedly rammed a vehicle into Rangers personnel, killing four and injuring five others, alongside two police officers. Over 100 police personnel have also been injured, many critically.

PTI supporters, led by Bushra Bibi and KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur, have converged on D-Chowk, demanding the release of their jailed party founder and addressing other grievances.

The government has imposed a security lockdown in Islamabad, barricading major roads with shipping containers and deploying heavy police and paramilitary forces in riot gear. Clashes between PTI workers and law enforcement agencies have intensified in recent months during repeated marches on the capital.
