PM urged to address the Nation immediately to counter negative propaganda and restore public confidence

KARACHI: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has been urged to address the nation at the earliest opportunity to present a comprehensive roadmap for governance reforms, economic relief, and administrative restructuring, amid growing public demand for greater clarity on the government’s future policy direction.
The call comes at a time when Pakistan has achieved notable diplomatic and economic milestones over the past year. The country’s international standing has improved considerably, its sovereign credit outlook has strengthened, and renewed confidence from global partners has reflected positively on Pakistan’s economic prospects. Observers have attributed much of this progress to the coordinated efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in advancing Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic objectives.
Despite these achievements, many analysts believe the country’s internal governance challenges require immediate and sustained attention.
An editorial published by The Financial Daily argues that while international recognition is encouraging, the next phase of national progress should focus on translating those gains into tangible benefits for ordinary Pakistanis. It notes that high fuel prices, expensive electricity, inflation, and the rising cost of living continue to place significant pressure on households and businesses.
According to the editorial, the Prime Minister’s address should reassure the public by presenting a clear strategy for improving governance, strengthening institutions, and accelerating administrative reforms. It also recommends that the government explain its approach to decentralisation and evaluate proposals aimed at improving public service delivery through more efficient administrative arrangements where appropriate.
The editorial further recommends that the government announce an immediate public relief package, beginning with meaningful reductions in petroleum prices and a long-term strategy to lower electricity and energy costs. It argues that affordable energy is essential for reviving industrial production, improving export competitiveness, attracting investment, and generating employment.
It also calls for stronger fiscal discipline within the government itself. Among the proposals are streamlining the federal cabinet, reviewing unnecessary ministries and public expenditure, and reducing official privileges and discretionary spending in order to demonstrate that the burden of economic reform is being shared by the leadership as well as the public.
The editorial maintains that visible austerity measures at the highest levels of government would strengthen public confidence and reinforce the message that national resources are being managed responsibly.
It further suggests that a direct address by the Prime Minister could help clarify the government’s priorities, communicate its reform agenda, and address uncertainty by providing a transparent vision for the country’s economic and administrative future.
According to the editorial, Pakistan’s recent diplomatic achievements provide an opportunity to launch a new phase of domestic reforms focused on good governance, institutional efficiency, and public welfare. It concludes that sustained economic progress will depend not only on macroeconomic stability but also on effective governance and policies that improve the daily lives of citizens.
The editorial emphasizes that a comprehensive national roadmap, communicated directly to the people, would demonstrate the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and long-term reform while reinforcing confidence in Pakistan’s future direction.
