Pakistan our identity, our pride, our responsibility

Whenever the month of August arrives, it brings with it a joy, a sense of pride, and an emotion that cannot be fully expressed in words. It is not merely a month; it is a luminous chapter of our history that reminds us of the tireless struggle of our forefathers, their unprecedented sacrifices, and their dream of an independent homeland.
August 14, 1947, was the historic day when the long, continuous, and remarkable struggle of the Muslims of the subcontinent bore fruit, and an independent state, Pakistan, emerged on the world map as a reality. This country was not merely a piece of land; it was the outcome of an ideology, a dream, a struggle, and millions of sacrifices. It was the homeland for which mothers sacrificed their sons, sisters lost their brothers, women even offered their jewelry for the freedom movement, elders endured immense hardships, and young people offered the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.
I feel immensely proud to say that I am a daughter of Pakistan. I belong to this great land that the world knows today as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Pakistan is our identity, our dignity, our pride, and the heartbeat of our hearts.
During the 79 years since its creation, Pakistan has faced countless challenges, yet this nation has demonstrated resilience and determination in the face of every difficulty. Beginning its journey with limited resources, the country has today become a recognized nuclear power in the world. Among the 57 countries of the Muslim world, Pakistan holds a unique position. Today, the international community recognizes Pakistan’s defence capabilities, diplomatic importance, geographical significance, and regional role. Pakistan’s diplomacy is important to major global powers, and the country continues to play its role internationally in safeguarding its national interests.
However, Pakistan’s true strength lies not merely in its nuclear capability, geographical importance, or defence power. Pakistan’s real strength is its people. Its greatest asset is its youth, its mothers, its soldiers, its teachers, its scientists, its farmers, workers, doctors, engineers, intellectuals, and every Pakistani who is honestly contributing to the development of this homeland.
As we celebrate Independence Day today, we should not limit ourselves merely to displaying the green and white flag. We must also ask ourselves: What have we done for Pakistan, and what must we do for Pakistan?
Pakistan has a debt upon us.
We must repay this debt through hard work.
We must repay it through honesty.
We must repay it by eliminating corruption.
We must repay it through knowledge, research, and innovation.
We must repay it by strengthening our institutions.
We must repay it by raising Pakistan’s honour and dignity in the world.
Today’s youth must acquire knowledge of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, modern technology, space sciences, and advanced research. At the same time, they must also understand Pakistan’s history, ideology, Constitution, and struggle for independence. We must tell our younger generation that this country was not achieved easily. Behind its creation lie rivers of blood, the agony of migration, the pain of separation, countless sacrifices, and the tireless struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
We must also teach our youth that the freedom movement was not merely the struggle of a few political leaders; it was the collective effort of an entire nation. We must explain how the Muslim League united Muslims on a common platform, how the people made sacrifices during different phases of the freedom struggle, how women played an important role, and how young people participated in the struggle for independence with extraordinary passion.
We must also tell them how the great poet and philosopher of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, inspired a new spirit among the Muslims of the subcontinent through his thought, poetry, and philosophy of selfhood. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, through his extraordinary political vision, principles, perseverance, and tireless efforts, transformed this dream into reality. A journey that once appeared almost impossible ultimately culminated in the creation of an independent homeland.
That is why living nations never forget their history.
We must move forward alongside the modern world while remaining connected to our history and ideological foundations. We must give our younger generation an awareness of the past while inspiring them with dreams of a brighter future. For nations that understand their history, identity, and existence are the ones that establish themselves in the world with dignity and confidence.
Today, Pakistan faces both internal and external challenges. Hatred, division, insecurity, sectarianism, provincial prejudice, and declining trust in institutions can weaken any nation. In such circumstances, we need unity, not division; tolerance, not hatred; and national cohesion, not disorder.
We must remember that Pakistan does not belong to any single province, language, region, or class. Pakistan belongs to all of us.
From the mountains of Balochistan to the majestic peaks of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from the plains of Punjab to the shores of Sindh, and from the valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan to the mountains of Azad Kashmir, every region is an integral part of Pakistan’s beauty and strength.
Pakistan’s strength is our strength.
Pakistan’s survival is our survival.
Pakistan’s progress is our progress.
The message of August 14 is not merely that we decorate our homes, buildings, and vehicles with the national flag. August 14 is a day to renew our commitment that we will utilize all our abilities for the honour, security, sovereignty, and development of our homeland.
Let us pledge that we will play our role in transforming Pakistan into the Pakistan envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah-a Pakistan where Unity, Faith, and Discipline form the foundation of national life; where the rule of law prevails; where merit is promoted; where young people have opportunities; where knowledge and research are respected; and where every Pakistani can take pride in their homeland.
We must not only tell future generations how Pakistan was created; we must also teach them how to make Pakistan stronger, prosperous, peaceful, and dignified.
Whenever we travel to any country in the world, our first identity is not simply our name; it is our nationality. Our green passport connects us to Pakistan. Wherever we stand in any corner of the world, the name of Pakistan becomes our identity. This is our greatest responsibility: to make this identity more dignified through our character, honesty, hard work, and achievements.
Pakistan is not merely a country marked on a map; Pakistan is a feeling that lives within our souls.
Pakistan is our identity.
Pakistan is our pride.
Pakistan is our hope.
Pakistan is our destination.
Pakistan is the future of our coming generations.
The Pakistani flag is not merely a piece of cloth; it is a symbol of millions of sacrifices.
This homeland belongs to us; we must build and nurture it.
This homeland is our identity; we must raise its stature.
This homeland is our trust; we must preserve it and pass it safely to future generations.
May Pakistan always remain strong and prosperous.
May Pakistan continue to rise with dignity and honour.
Pakistan Zindabad!
Pakistan Paindabad!
