Pakistan shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 25-metre rapid fire pistol event at the 2026 Asian Games on Thursday, raising Pakistan’s overall medal tally at the Games to six.
Bashir finished third in the eight-man final with 22 hits at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery. South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok won gold, while China’s Su Lianbofan secured silver after both finished the competition stages with 32 hits.
The Pakistani shooter had entered the second day of qualification in eighth position but improved to sixth place, earning a spot in the medal round.
Bashir maintained his composure during the final and remained in medal contention through the elimination stages.
He eventually secured bronze with 22 hits, finishing two ahead of Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy, who was eliminated in fourth place with 20.
Lee and Su were tied at 32 hits before the South Korean prevailed to claim the gold medal. Their performances were listed as an Asian Games record and Asian record.
The bronze represents another major international achievement for Bashir, a three-time Olympian who previously won bronze for Pakistan at the 2022 ISSF World Championships.
His latest podium finish takes Pakistan’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games to six.
