Aurangzeb outlines debt management measures at Bangkok panel

Muhammad Aurangzeb outlined debt management measures to lower financing costs and reduce rollover risks, the Press Information Department said.

The Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue addressed a panel on mitigating sovereign risks in market-access countries in Bangkok. The discussion took place alongside the World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings 2026.

Aurangzeb said the measures also aimed to extend debt maturities. He noted that renewed market access supported efforts to improve the external debt profile without increasing its overall size.

He highlighted Pakistan’s progress in fiscal consolidation, inflation reduction and rebuilding foreign exchange reserves. He also emphasised revenue mobilisation, tax administration reforms, expenditure restraint and privatisation to strengthen economic resilience.

The minister reaffirmed national ownership of taxation, energy, state-owned enterprises and pension reforms under the IMF-supported programme. He stressed sustained implementation to turn macroeconomic stability into sustainable growth and public welfare.
