World Thalassemia Day observed

Jamila Sultana Foundation and Safe Blood Transfusion Programme organized an event in connection with World Thalassemia Day during the week. Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Broadcasting graced the occasion as a chief guest.

In her address on the occasion, she said that continuity of democracy was imperative for public-centric legislation to root out the diseases like thalassemia. She said that no government and stakeholders could tackle a fatal disease like Thalassemia without due cooperation and consent of the masses.

The Minister said that Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was going to run an awareness campaign regarding thalassemia on official media i.e. PTV and Radio Pakistan. She said that PTV’s Parliament Channel to be launched soon would cover proceedings of the Parliament and its committees live. She urged the private media to be a part of the campaign to save lives.

She said that the treatment for thalassemia was not only expensive but it was also a traumatic experience for the family, adding that the provincial governments should declare emergency at the provincial level for the treatment of the disease.

Open House 2018 at Air University

Air University, during its annual Open House 2018, has provided opportunity to its graduating students from Engineering Sciences and Computer Sciences to present their final year projects. More than 500 students had successfully demonstrated their talent in the areas of information technology, robotics & industrial automation, healthcare, power sector, energy sector, telecom sector, electronics industry etc.
Imtiaz Ali Rastgar, founder and Chairman of Rastgar Group who was the chief guest on the occasion visited to the Open House stalls along with the Vice Chancellor AVM (Retd) Faaiz Amir, hoped that the event would strengthen industry-academia partnership.
Vice Chancellor Faaiz Amir also expressed his views on the importance of industry-academia cooperation. He was of the view that Open House is serving as a platform where the educated youth could be made aware of utilising their potential. He said that strong linkage between industrial sector and academia is the most important factor to ensure national development.
The house concluded with the prize distribution ceremony to acknowledge the top projects in each department. On the occasion, representatives from almost 24 renowned companies were also present to acknowledge the innovative projects designed by the students.

Three-day course by Islamabad Police

Islamabad Police arranged three-day course to sensitize policemen towards prevention of violence against women as well as child protection and bring change in their attitudes for handling such matters positively, during the week. The concluding ceremony of the course was held at Police Line Headquarters which was attended among others by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Nasir Mehmud Satti, SP (Headquarters) Sumera Azam and Syed Safi from ROZAN.
Nasir Mehmud Satti, in his address on the occasion, thanked ROZAN for arranging such courses for policemen. He said Islamabad Police is role model for police forces of provinces and there is great expectation of citizen from Capital Police.
He said initial interaction of policemen with citizens visiting police stations to register their complaints is very much crucial which creates the specific image about the force. The good attitude of policemen will help to inculcate friendly police ecology and image of the force will also improve through it.
Syed Safi from ROZAN said that several courses have been arranged for Islamabad police to enhance their professionalism about issues of human rights. He said that better policing culture would be promoted through such courses.

APP, China Daily Multimedia go for News Cooperation

Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and China Daily Multimedia have signed an agreement
to further enhance collaboration in news exchange and providing access to information for extensive coverage of events in both Pakistan and China. The agreement was signed by Masood Malik, Managing Director APP and Lychee Li, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of China Daily Multimedia here at APP Headquarters, on the sidelines of two-day International Conference of News Agencies in connection with Pakistan’s 70th anniversary of Independence.

Under the agreement signed Saturday night, the parties have agreed to a procedure for providing access to their information with China Daily Multimedial, within two weeks of signing this supplementary agreement, shall provide APP with access to the special area on China Daily Multimedia’s homepage by providing APP with an individual login and password.

Both the sides agreed to share news to certain extent and ensure access to information as and when required by the parties. The special area shall be set on the bottom section of China Daily Multimedia’s homepage, below the section of “media partner” with logo and three articles from APP.

Managing Director APP, Masood Malik termed the supplementary agreement another step forward towards broadening APP’s scope and ensure dissemination of its news to readers in China and elsewhere.
