Diary From China : Karachi Media Delegation’s insightful journey to Beijing & Shanghai

This year, once again, a media delegation will be visiting China, scheduled from September 3rd to September 12th, 2024. The delegation consists of eight esteemed senior members of the Karachi media community, all embarking on this journey. The visit provides an opportunity to explore two of China’s most iconic cities-Beijing and Shanghai.
The delegation is set to arrive in Beijing on the morning of September 4th via China Air, with accommodation arranged at the prestigious Beijing Huabin International Hotel. They will spend four days in Beijing before departing on the afternoon of Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Their journey to Shanghai will be via the high-speed railway, a marvel of modern transportation that covers the distance in just 4 hours and 34 minutes, renowned for its punctuality. In Shanghai, the delegation will be staying at the luxurious Shanghai Xin Jin Jiang Hotel. After a few days of exploring Shanghai, the delegation will return to Beijing on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 11th, before flying back to Karachi on the evening of Thursday, September 12th.

While in Beijing, the delegation’s itinerary includes visits to the Pakistan Embassy, Huawei’s Beijing headquarters, China Power International, the iconic Badaling Great Wall, the offices of Economic Daily, Origin Water Company, Beijing Forestry University Science Company, the historic Palace Museum, and the logistics and technology giant J.D. Logistics/Xiaomi. In Shanghai, they will visit Nansheng Village in Tuolin Town, Fengxian, the Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China, SAIC Motor, Shanghai Challenge Textile, and Shanghai Electric.

Shazia Hasan

Shazia Hasan : A senior journalist based in Karachi, Shazia Hasan is renowned for her in-depth stories and features that have earned her numerous awards, including the inaugural International Committee of the Red Cross award for humanitarian reporting by CEJ-IBA and five Agahi awards. She has also received the National Book Foundation Award for her book of short stories. Shazia is a senior staff reporter with Pakistan’s leading English-language newspaper, Daily Dawn, where she manages the literary section, Books & Authors. Additionally, she teaches creative writing and other courses at the Institute of Business Management and served as the Vice President of the Karachi Press Club in 2021.

Saeed Sarbazi

Muhammad Saeed Sarbazi: A senior journalist specializing in business reporting, Muhammad Saeed Sarbazi is currently serving as the President of the Karachi Press Club. He is affiliated with Daily Business Recorder, Pakistan’s largest business newspaper, where he has made significant contributions to business journalism.

 

Shoaib Ahmed

Shoaib Ahmed: The current Secretary of the Karachi Press Club (2023-present), Shoaib Ahmed has held several key positions in the journalism community, including serving as the Assistant Secretary General of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (Dastoor) and as the General Secretary of the Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) from 2014 to 2016. His leadership and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the cause of journalists in Pakistan.

Rida Saifee

Rida Hameed Saifee: A prominent TV anchor associated with K21 News Channel, Rida Hameed Saifee is one of the leading media personalities in Pakistan. Her work as a news anchor has earned her recognition and respect across the country.

Raja Muhammad Anis

Raja Muhammad Anis: is a prominent journalist and anchor, currently hosting the program “Bila Takalluf by Raja Anis” on Metro1 News Channel, Karachi. Over the past four years, he has conducted around 200 programs on topics like business, politics, economics, and social issues. He has interviewed diplomats from countries such as Iran, China, and Japan, and his exclusive interview with Iran’s Consul General was aired on Tehran National Television. Raja Anis is also a columnist for leading Karachi newspapers and has received several national and international awards, including honors from China, Indonesia, and Japan.

Muhammad Zubair Uddin

Muhammad Zubair Uddin: Muhammad Zubair Uddin, a Senior News Reporter at PTV for fifteen years, has extensive experience in journalism, having previously worked with AAJ TV, Business Recorder Group, and The News International. He has represented Pakistan positively in both local and international reporting from countries like the UAE, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Sri Lanka. Holding an M.Phil degree, Zubair is committed to continuing his work by informing audiences about the strong Pakistan-China friendship, including CPEC and China’s rapid development.

Zeshan Ahmed: Zeshan Ahmed is currently serving with Daily Express Tribune, where his journalistic skills have made a significant impact. He is known for his in-depth analysis and insightful articles.

As the Secretary General of The Karachi Editors Club (KEC), I will be accompanying this esteemed delegation as the focal person, representing The Financial Daily (TFD). This upcoming visit marks my eighth journey to China, a country I have come to know intimately over the years. My previous visits include a memorable family trip in 2016, also courtesy of the Chinese Consulate, and six others sponsored by China Daily. Throughout these trips, I have shared my experiences with readers through daily diaries and detailed articles, and I have authored three books on China: Wonderful China, Amazing China, and BRI, Connecting the Continents.

I am excited to continue this tradition by providing daily updates on this trip through Diary from China, which will be published daily in TFD, offering readers an insider’s view of our visits and interactions. This journey promises to be another unforgettable experience, deepening our understanding of China’s culture, economy, and technological advancements.
