Extremist activities threaten peace across Sindh including Agham Kot, after Eidul Azha

HYDERABAD: After Eidul Azha prayers, drums are played at Imambargahs across Sindh to symbolize the beginning of the Days of Mourning (Ayyam-e-Aza). This is followed by the lowering, decorating, and mounting of the sacred flags (Alam Pak), and the preparation of sacred relics (Tabarrukat) to be taken out during Muharram processions. It would be more appropriate to say that in Sindh, the Days of Mourning begin in stages right after Eidul Azha prayers, says a Press release.
These thoughts were expressed by Ali Gohar Chandio, Chief Organizer of the Azadar Coordination Committee Hyderabad, while addressing a central meeting of the committee held at Masjid Al-Hussaini, Achhar Palari Ka Pir, Latifabad No. 4.
He stated that at the holy shrine of Masooma-e-Sindh (S.A.) located in Agham Kot, provocative acts have been continuously carried out by a coalition of land mafia, drug dealers, and extremist groups. Their goal is to spread religious hatred and discord.
On ordinary days, hundreds of pilgrims from various parts of the country visit the shrine of Bibi Pak. During the Days of Mourning, this number reaches into the thousands, as it always does. In such sacred times, these provocative actions by extremist groups could spark religious conflict that may spread nationwide – which is precisely the intention of these groups.
Therefore, the government and responsible authorities must take immediate and practical steps to stop these peace-disrupting and sectarian activities.
He further clarified that if any unpleasant incident occurs during the Days of Mourning due to these ongoing extremist provocations, the full responsibility will lie with the individuals named in the FIRs and the extremists who are brought in every other day from Hyderabad, Badin, and other cities to incite unrest in Agham Kot. Videos and footage of these individuals are available on social, electronic, and print media.
