Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Lone comments on Iqbal and Ali Shariati: “Shariati is a profound and original thinker. It was after a long time, probably after Ibn Khuldun, that such a great scholar sociologist, with deep Quranic insight and universal Islamic vision was born, his fundamental contribution will keep him alive for decades and centuries together. However, it is generally felt that Shariati is well known within the boundaries of Iran rather than outside. So, the need arises to introduce him to the people in the world in general and to the educated Muslims in particular. In this book, I have attempted to introduce Shariati at various levels but in general way, our Endeavour is to portray him as a revolutionary social reformer who believes in the transformation of contemporary Muslim society, by Progressive Muslim intellectuals rather than the conservative and dogmatic Muslim Mullahs.”
