Heatwave Grips Sindh, Balochistan; Karachi to Face Hot, Humid Eid Day with Gusty Winds

KARACHI: As the second day of Eid ul Adha unfolds, Karachi is set to endure hot and humid weather coupled with occasional strong winds, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported on Sunday. The conditions come as a severe heatwave sweeps across Sindh and Balochistan, expected to persist through June 12.

According to the PMD, Karachi’s daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 35°C and 37°C, following an early morning low of 28.2°C. Humidity levels remain high at 78%, and sea breezes are blowing at around 16 km/h, though high atmospheric pressure is intensifying the discomfort.

In Balochistan, extreme heat is gripping much of the province. Quetta and nearby areas remain clear and dry, while northern districts experience dry conditions, and southern and central regions endure oppressive heat. The PMD noted that temperatures in many areas are 4°C to 6°C above normal.

On Saturday, Sibi scorched at 49°C, Turbat registered 41°C, and Nokkundi recorded 43°C.

Meanwhile, upper and central Sindh are also under a heatwave warning, with temperatures forecasted to remain 3°C to 5°C higher than average through the coming week.

Authorities have urged the public to take protective measures, such as staying indoors during peak hours, drinking plenty of fluids, and limiting exposure to direct sunlight to prevent heat-related illnesses.
