KP Reports 4th Mpox Case Amidst Screening Efforts

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed its fourth case of mpox on Sunday, as revealed by Dr. Irshad Ali Roghani, the provincial director of public health.

The patient, a 47-year-old man, was identified during routine screening at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar after arriving from abroad. Upon detecting symptoms, health officials conducted a physical examination and promptly transferred the patient to the Police Services Hospital in Peshawar. There, doctors collected samples and sent them to the public health reference laboratory at Khyber Medical University (KMU).

Dr. Roghani confirmed that the test results returned positive for mpox. The patient, who hails from Peshawar, was placed in isolation to prevent further transmission and is receiving appropriate medical care.

Provincial Health Department officials reported that all four cases of mpox in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa involved individuals who had traveled from abroad. Two of the patients had arrived from Saudi Arabia, while the other two came from the United Arab Emirates.

Officials also noted that there have been no reports of local transmission of mpox within the province. To date, Pakistan has documented four mpox cases in 2024, all of which are linked to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
