Pakistan, only nuclear power in Islamic world, has emerged as a major military power in the region. After victory in Marka-e-Haq, Pakistan not only demonstrated its defensive capabilities but also strengthened its role in regional and int’l politics. As a result, activities of Pakistan’s political and military leadership have increasingly become the focus of global powers. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership qualities and successful military diplomacy have been widely appreciated both within Pakistan and internationally. He has become a prominent global figure, getting on the nerves of India and Israel. After India’s defeat in Marka-e-Haq, India now believes that as long as General Asim Munir remains in command, it cannot take military action against Pakistan because Pakistan is prepared to defend itself decisively under his leadership. India has since altered its approach toward Pakistan, and reports of Track II diplomacy between the two countries are circulating, which is a positive development.
General Asim Munir’s mediating role in potential U.S.-Iran peace agreement, Israel has come to view him as an enemy. Israel strongly opposes any agreement between United States and Iran and has sought to prevent such an outcome. Whenever U.S.-Iran negotiations approached completion, Israel would launch attacks on Lebanon to discourage Iran from pursuing a peace agreement with United States. It is to be noted that Israel has played a key role in encouraging U.S. President Donald Trump to attack Iran and assured USA that such action would lead to regime change in Iran, which didn’t materialized. Defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is also viewed by Israel as a threat, under which any attack on Saudi Arabia would be considered an attack on Pakistan. Israel views it as Pakistan has extended a “nuclear umbrella” to Saudi Arabia. Recently Pakistan also playing an important role in forming a four-country strategic Islamic alliance with Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, like NATO, which Israel see as a direct obstacle to its vision of “Greater Israel.” President Donald Trump’s repeated references to General Asim Munir as a brave and courageous Field Marshal have further intensified Israel’s concerns. These developments have made Asim Munir a significant obstacle to Israel’s strategic objectives Israel is convinced that as long as Asim Munir is in charge, it will never succeed in achieving its malicious objectives.
In the past Israel has faced allegations of conducting covert operations against its enemies. It would not be surprising if General Asim Munir were also included on the Mossad list of individuals whom Israel considers obstacles to its objectives. Few years ago, a helicopter crash that killed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also raises concern. The official explanation cited adverse weather, however other two helicopters in the presidential convoy reached their destinations safely despite the same conditions. This tragic killing also appears to be linked to Mossad.
It is suggested that Field Marshal Asim Munir avoid foreign travelling as much as possible because Israel possesses advanced technology that is capable of technically disabling or jamming the systems of any aircraft while it is in flight, which could result in a plane crash. It is need of the hour that Pakistan should further strengthen its diplomatic, intelligence, and security capabilities to safeguard its political and military leadership. As per current global scenario, Pakistan and the Muslim world need a courageous military leader like Field Marshal General Asim Munir now more than ever.
