The FIFA World Cup 2026 is being played with great enthusiasm in United States, and football fever has gripped people around the world, including Pakistan. Whenever FIFA World Cup takes center stage, traditional football powerhouses such as Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, England, and Italy are the first teams that come to mind. However, over the past several years, one team has astonished the world and proved that determination and sound strategy can overcome even the strongest opponents. That team is Morocco, which has redefined its identity in the history of world football. Morocco’s outstanding performances in World Cup history have not only created new milestones on the football field but have also demonstrated to the world that sporting excellence and Islamic values can go hand in hand.
Morocco first participated in FIFA World Cup in 1970. Through consistent hard work and careful planning, team gradually established itself among the world’s elite football nations. In 1986, Morocco became the first African and Arab team to advance beyond the group stage of the World Cup. At the time, this achievement was nothing short of revolutionary, as African teams were rarely regarded as serious contenders on the global stage. However, Morocco emerged as a leading nation during FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022. The team proved that football is not merely about resources or famous names but also about strategy, unity, and unwavering determination. Morocco stunned football fans worldwide by defeating two former European world champions, Spain and Portugal, to become the first African and Arab nation to reach the World Cup semifinals. This was not just a football victory, it was a moment of immense pride and celebration for the entire African continent and the Arab world. In FIFA World Cup 2026, Morocco has once again surprised football world by defeating several highly ranked and powerful teams such as Netherland, Scotland & Canada, whereas match with Brazil was draw, to reach the quarterfinals. These successes are no coincidence; they are the result of years of planning, hard work, and national commitment.
Being the Hon. Consul General of Morocco, during every FIFA World Cup I organize live screenings of Morocco’s important World Cup matches on a giant screen. This year, I also organized live screening of the Round of 16 match between Morocco and Canada, the event was held at the lawn of my house attended by Moroccan families, my friends, and many football enthusiasts. Guests were dressed up in the colors of Morocco’s national flag and celebrated every goal scored by Morocco. Morocco won the match 3-0, after which Moroccan families and their children celebrated with joyful dancing. On this happy occasion, in my speech I said that the victory belonged not only to Morocco but also to every Muslim country, including Pakistan, because a Muslim nation had reached the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup. The celebration concluded with the cutting of a cake featuring Moroccan football team, followed by a fireworks display.
Morocco’s success in recent FIFA World Cup was not confined to the football field alone. The Moroccan team also presented a powerful image of Islam, Islamic values, and religious identity to the world. After every victory, the players gone into sajda expressing their gratitude to ALLAH, embraced their mothers, kissed their hands, and celebrated joyfully with their parents. These heartfelt scenes deeply moved audiences across the globe. On this occasion, a European commentator was heard saying, “We taught Morocco football, but today they are defeating us on the field. Perhaps it is now time for us to learn from them how to honor and respect our parents.” Through its performances at the FIFA World Cup, Morocco has not only elevated the prestige of its country but has also presented its culture, traditions, and Islamic values to the world in a positive light. It demonstrated that true success is not only about lifting trophies but also about displaying exemplary character. Morocco has shown the world that football is no longer defined by the history of traditional football powers; it is the performance that matters. The Moroccan team has not only won matches but also won hearts, conveying the message that a nation can remain deeply rooted in its faith, culture, family values, and traditions while achieving success on the global stage. This is Morocco’s greatest achievement and an inspiring example for Muslim youth around the world.

In recognition of my services and contributions, His Majesty King Mohamed VI honored me with the prestigious award Wisam Alaoui, one of Morocco’s highest civilian awards. This recognition is a source of pride not only for me but also for Pakistan. I remain hopeful that in the quarterfinal match against France on Friday, Morocco will once again emerge victorious and prove that the FIFA World Cup is not the legacy of European nations.
