Mushtaq Ghani and Mahmood Jaan take oath as Speaker, Dy Speaker in KP PA

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly on Wednesday commenced its session to elect speaker and deputy speaker for next five years.
The MPAs confidentially voted their favorite candidate during the session.
Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf’s (PTI) Mushtaq Ghani has been elected as speaker KP Assembly. Mushtaq received 81 votes and declared victorious against opposition’s Laiq Mohammad who secured 27 votes. 108 out of 112 members of provincial assembly exercised their voting right.
Mushtaq Ghani was elected to the KP Assembly as an independent candidate from PK-44 (Abbottabad-I) in general election 2013. He served as minister for Information and later became higher education minister.
On July 25, he won polls from his hometown PK-39 Abbottabad-IV with 28,424 votes. Previously, he had also secured the same seat in elections 2013.
On the other hand, PTI leader Mahmood Jaan has become deputy speaker by clinching 78 votes while opposition’s Jamshed Mohammad obtained 30 votes.
Mushtaq received 81 votes and declared victorious against opposition’s Laiq Mohammad who secured 27 votes. 108 out of 112 members of provincial assembly exercised their voting right.
KP assembly had commenced its session during which polling to select speaker and deputy speaker was started. The MPAs confidentially voted their favorite candidate.
PTI had nominated Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani for slot of speaker and Mahmood Jaan for position of deputy speaker. – NNI
