KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid a glowing tribute to Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, the valiant soldier of the Pakistan Army and a recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, on his 54th martyrdom anniversary, praising his unmatched courage and historic contribution during the 1971 war.

In a special message issued on the occasion, the prime minister described Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed as “a brave and devoted son of the soil whose extraordinary heroism in the Zafarwal-Shakargarh sector continues to inspire generations.” He said the nation salutes the supreme sacrifice of its first Armoured Corps recipient of the country’s highest military honour.
“Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed’s gallantry and unparalleled bravery in the Zafarwal-Shakargarh sector in 1971 filled the entire nation with everlasting pride. It is because of such heroic sons that Pakistan’s defence remains invincible,” the prime minister stated.
Shehbaz Sharif said the young soldier displayed exceptional courage while guiding tank fire, supplying ammunition under intense enemy attack, and repeatedly exposing himself to danger to ensure the success of his regiment. “By thwarting the cowardly enemy’s assault with remarkable skill and strategy, Sowar Hussain Shaheed turned the tide of the battlefield and etched his name permanently in the nation’s history,” he added.
The prime minister noted that the sacrifices of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed and countless other martyrs form the backbone of Pakistan’s national defence. “Our martyrs are the nation’s eternal pride. Their blood is a sacred trust, and their legacy strengthens our resolve to safeguard Pakistan at all costs,” he said.
