KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, saying their welfare remains a top national priority.
The assurance came during a meeting with Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain, who briefed the prime minister on the latest initiatives and reforms being undertaken by his ministry.
According to official sources, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the ministry’s recent steps to streamline services, address complaints, and improve facilitation for millions of Pakistanis living and working abroad.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that overseas Pakistanis are a vital pillar of the national economy, contributing significantly through remittances and acting as Pakistan’s ambassadors across the world. He emphasized the need for stronger institutional mechanisms to support workers, professionals, and expatriate families, particularly in the Gulf region where a large segment of the Pakistani workforce is employed.
During the briefing, Chaudhry Salik Hussain updated the prime minister on progress related to labour welfare, digital complaint handling, overseas employment facilitation, and coordination with foreign missions for resolving worker disputes.
The prime minister directed the ministry to accelerate reforms, ensure transparent recruitment processes, and strengthen legal assistance for Pakistanis facing hardships abroad. He also called for enhanced collaboration with host countries to secure better job opportunities and protection for Pakistani workers.
The minister assured the prime minister of his ministry’s full dedication to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of overseas citizens.
The PM concluded by reiterating that the government will continue to prioritize the concerns of Pakistan’s global diaspora, acknowledging their indispensable role in the country’s economic stability and development.
