BEIJING: The Pakistan Embassy College Beijing (PECB), in collaboration with the Women Empowerment and Development Society in Asia-Africa (WEDS.AA), organized a special event to mark International Women’s Day 2026, featuring the launch of the “WEDSTAR: The AI Picture Book International Co-Creating Project.”
H.E. Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, attended the ceremony as Chief Guest. In his remarks, he highlighted the significance of the event in the context of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, and paid tribute to women leaders, writers, scholars, scientists and entrepreneurs from both countries for their valuable contributions in strengthening bilateral ties.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to women’s empowerment, the Ambassador emphasized that sustainable progress depends on ensuring equal access for women to education, opportunities and participation in public life. He noted that an inclusive society can fully benefit from the leadership and potential of women in shaping a more just and equitable future.
Dr. Zhao Meiling, President of WEDS.AA, described the initiative as a meaningful platform to explore how artificial intelligence can support women’s development and inspire younger generations across Asia and Africa. She expressed confidence that the project would attract broad international participation.
On behalf of the organizers, H.E. Gaetan Michel Siew Hew Sam, Ambassador of Mauritius, formally announced the launch of the WEDSTAR International AI Painting Co-creation Project.
The event also featured an interactive art session, where participants created paintings on diverse themes. These artworks were then transformed in real time using AI technology, an activity that was warmly appreciated by attendees.
The ceremony was attended by Chinese dignitaries, ambassadors, diplomatic representatives and members of cultural and social organizations, reflecting strong international engagement in promoting women’s empowerment through innovation and collaboration.
