Pakistan May Invite India for T20I Series at Neutral Venue

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring the possibility of rekindling bilateral cricket ties with India by proposing a T20I series at a neutral venue in 2025. This initiative comes amidst discussions surrounding the Champions Trophy, with India expressing reservations about traveling to Pakistan due to security concerns.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who has traveled to Sri Lanka for a brief visit, is expected to address the proposal with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah at the upcoming ICC annual conference in Colombo. The proposed T20I series could potentially be scheduled during a period when both teams have a clear window following the Champions Trophy.

India’s participation in the Champions Trophy, set to be hosted in Pakistan, remains uncertain due to ongoing security and political issues. The BCCI has indicated that traveling to Pakistan might not be feasible for the Indian team. Despite these concerns, the PCB is committed to hosting all Champions Trophy matches in Lahore and has undertaken measures to ensure the safety of the Indian team, including plans to build a new 5-star hotel near the stadium to minimize travel and security challenges.

The PCB’s efforts to persuade the BCCI to send the Indian team to Pakistan ultimately hinge on the Indian government’s approval. The two nations have not played a bilateral series since 2012, with cricketing encounters largely confined to ICC and ACC tournaments due to the prevailing political tensions between the countries.

This proposed T20I series at a neutral venue represents a significant step towards reviving cricketing relations and could pave the way for more collaborative cricketing events between the two countries in the future.
