Pakistan-Türkiye relations enjoy a unique standing in the international arena. Their roots predate the creation of Pakistan itself. During the Khilafat Movement (1919-1924), the Muslims of the region that now constitutes Pakistan made remarkable sacrifices to support and preserve the Ottoman Caliphate. People sold their lands, while women donated their jewelry to aid their Turkish brethren.
Türkiye has long been a steadfast advocate for the rights and dignity of Muslims around the world. It consistently promotes unity, cooperation, and development among Muslim nations. The friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye is exemplary. Türkiye was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Pakistan after its independence in 1947, and from then until today, this bond has stood as a symbol of solidarity, brotherhood, and mutual trust.
History bears witness that whenever either nation has faced adversity be it earthquakes, floods, or other crises the people of Pakistan and Türkiye have stood shoulder to shoulder, never leaving one another alone. On issues such as Azerbaijan, Kashmir, and other international concerns, both countries have steadfastly supported each other. Türkiye has consistently voiced its support for Pakistan on the Kashmir issue and has stood by Pakistan during times of regional tension.
The two countries enjoy robust defense, trade, and cultural ties. The people of Türkiye hold Pakistan in high esteem and Pakistanis reciprocate this affection wholeheartedly. Together, Pakistan and Türkiye have often raised their voices for oppressed peoples, whether in Palestine, Myanmar Rohanghaya issue or elsewhere, reflecting a shared vision of justice and humanitarian concern.
I recently had the privilege of meeting Turkish professor Dr Baris Adibelli Department of Political Science and International Relations Kutahya Dumlupinar University during a visit to Xinjiang, China. As an academic myself, I was deeply impressed by their knowledge of Pakistan and their sincere affection for our country. One professor repeatedly expressed the heartfelt sentiment, “Dil Dil Pakistan Jan Jan Pakistan” a phrase that beautifully encapsulates the warmth between our peoples. Although our languages may differ, our values, traditions, and aspirations are remarkably similar.
The popularity of Turkish television dramas in Pakistan has further strengthened these bonds, enabling Pakistanis to better understand and appreciate Turkish culture. It is my sincere hope that Türkiye will continue to play a leading role in fostering unity within the Muslim world. If Pakistan and Türkiye work even more closely together, including within the framework of the OIC, they can make a significant contribution to addressing the challenges faced by Muslim communities worldwide.
I remain grateful to the Turkish scholars who deepened my understanding of Türkiye’s culture and its enduring friendship with Pakistan. I am committed to contributing, in whatever way I can, to further strengthening these ties so that future generations may continue to cherish this extraordinary bond founded on sincerity, peace, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
Long live the friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye. May both nations remain prosperous, peaceful, and united for generations to come.
