RAWALPINDI: In a significant development amid ongoing negotiations with the government, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar confirmed meeting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Speaking to journalists at the Adiala Jail courtroom on Thursday, Gohar admitted to the meeting after previously denying it. He described the direct dialogue with the military leadership as a “positive step” toward addressing the party’s concerns and resolving the current political crisis.
“We presented all of PTI’s demands directly to General Munir,” Gohar stated.
PTI founder Imran Khan also confirmed the meeting to reporters, adding that the party had been advocating for negotiations for some time. He welcomed the opening of communication, emphasizing the potential for stability in Pakistan.
Sources revealed that Gohar was flown to Peshawar by helicopter for the discussion, coinciding with COAS Munir’s visit to meet provincial political leaders. During his address, the army chief reiterated:
“If there is a state, there is politics. God forbid, without a state, there is nothing.”
The meeting marks a rare and hopeful step toward political reconciliation, though further details are awaited. The PTI has long been critical of deals with opponents, making this engagement a noteworthy shift.
This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information emerges.
