KARACHI: Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi said that free, responsible and constructive journalism is vital for a strong democratic society, transparent governance, and national development. He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of the Karachi Editors Club led by its President, Mubashir Mir, at the Governor House.
The meeting focused on challenges facing the media, the role of journalism in national development, youth empowerment, public welfare, and issues of mutual interest. The Governor highlighted the government’s initiatives for youth, including the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, aimed at equipping students with modern technology and digital skills.
Mubashir Mir briefed the Governor on the Karachi Editors Club’s activities, including journalist training, media dialogues, seminars, and public awareness campaigns. He also emphasized the need for a permanent premises for the Club to establish a modern center for research, training, and professional development.
Governor Hashmi appreciated the Club’s contributions to promoting responsible journalism and public awareness, assuring his support for its future initiatives. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between the media and public institutions and to promote professional journalism and the training of young journalists.
The delegation included Nazir Laghari, Manzar Naqvi (Secretary General), Mukhtar Ahmed Butt, Humair Anwar, Naeem Tahir, Nadeem Israr Usmani, Javed Malik, Naeemuddin, Tanzeem Javed, Ali Asghar, and Iqbal Jameel.
