The beginning of 2026 has been marked by a troubling political situation.Tensions and conflict involving the United States and Israel with Iran have severely affected global peace. An atmosphere of anxiety prevails everywhere and the intensity of these developments has pushed the region toward the brink of war. In such a tense environment, a hopeful moment emerged when I had the opportunity to attend an important session held at the Chinese Embassy on March 24, 2026.
The session was titled: “The 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China.” It highlighted China’s 15th Five-Year Plan Success, future goals and strategic direction. The session was organized following the conclusion of China’s “Two Sessions,” the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan and the announcement of the 2026 Government Work Report targets. It conveyed a clear and strong message to the international community about China focus on economic cooperation and development through peaceful way.
While much of the world is grappling with war, destruction and instability, China is moving forward with a positive vision and a well-defined strategy. Even in 2026, China continues to prioritize planning and a strong governance system for development, promoting global cooperation and shared growth. This reflects how sustainable development and global leadership underscore the strength and confidence of China’s economy.
China has played a significant role in global economic growth for many years, contributing nearly 30% to global economic expansion. By 2025, China’s GDP surpassed $20 trillion. Despite global challenges such as the Russia-Ukraine war, tensions in the Middle East, and Pakistan-India disputes, China achieved a growth rate target of approximately 4-5%.
China’s core objective is to promote high-quality productive forces, strengthen self-reliance and advance innovation-driven development. The country is rapidly transitioning from traditional manufacturing to smart manufacturing. Development initiatives are ongoing across sectors including education, healthcare, industry and trade.
Research and Development (R&D) remains a key priority for China, where it has successfully achieved its targets. Significant advancements in artificial intelligence and modern technology are clear examples. In industrial development, over 2,000 lighthouse factories and digital workshops demonstrate China’s progress.
China has also achieved remarkable success in the space sector, completing more than 60 space missions in 2025. Plans to send a Pakistani astronaut into space in 2026 reflect the strong friendship between the two countries.
China’s role in the energy sector continues to expand, while Chinese investments in Pakistan’s economy are also noteworthy. In 2025, China’s total imports and exports reached $6.24 trillion, ranking first globally, with over 14% share in global exports. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) amounted to $4.3 billion, with 35% directed toward high-tech sectors.
An important aspect of China’s development is that its benefits are not limited to its own borders but extend to regions and countries around the world. This is why more than 170 countries trust China’s development model. Its policies are based on cooperation and peace, promoting shared prosperity.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, China spent approximately $14.47 trillion on social welfare, resulting in the establishment of the world’s largest healthcare and education systems. Special attention has been given to public welfare.
Over the past two years, China has not only advanced domestically but has also made significant contributions in Pakistan. Health kits were distributed in 23 districts and 776 schools, benefiting 70,000 individuals. Chinese doctors successfully performed surgeries on children with congenital heart diseases. In Gwadar, the Pak-China Friendship Hospital treated 48,656 patients in just two months, with over 1,000 receiving free services. Additionally, more than 80,000 medical supplies were provided for maternal and child healthcare.
China also plays an important role in global peace and stability. It consistently emphasizes dialogue and diplomacy as means to resolve conflicts and supports the principles of sovereignty and the United Nations Charter. China has refrained from military intervention and continues to uphold international law.
Under the Global Development Initiative (GDI), China has allocated over $23 billion in the past four years to developing countries. The Global Security Initiative has received support from more than 80 countries and organizations. The “Group of Friends of Global Governance,” which includes Pakistan, aims to strengthen the voice of developing nations.Through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China is connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe, promoting development and connectivity, particularly in underdeveloped regions.China and Pakistan share a strong strategic partnership, and this year marks 74 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. With China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Pakistan’s economic transformation agenda, both nations have a valuable opportunity to achieve high-quality development, especially under CPEC.
China continues to focus on innovation, artificial intelligence, research and development, healthcare and space science and Pakistan can greatly benefit from cooperation in these areas. China has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times, promoting peace, development, and brotherhood. As a reliable “all-weather friend,” its role is undeniable.
In conclusion, China emerges as a symbol of peace, development, and global cooperation. While some nations remain entangled in conflicts, China is focused on economic planning and practical progress. This is why countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe view China as a trustworthy partner and a major force for peace and development.
