Staying in Makkah upon the conclusion of Umrah
After RasulullahS.A.W had completed Umrah, he stayed at a placed called Abtah for four days, which is on the eastern side of MakkahMukarramah. During his stay, he continued to shorten his prayers (Qasr).
Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah R.A narrates that he witnessed Sayyiduna Bilal R.A calling out the Adhaan, during which he was turning to his right and left and his fingers were in his ears, while RasulullahS.A.W stayed in a red tent, possibly made of leather.
Hadhrat Bilal R.A came out in front of NabiS.A.W with a walking staff in his hand which resembled a spear, which he planted in the ground ahead of RasulullahS.A.W. Thereafter, RasulullahS.A.W performed the prayers. (Musnad Ahmad, H 18759, P52/31)
During his stay in Bathaa or Abtah, RasulullahS.A.W visited HadhratSaad R.A. During this visit, HadhratSaad R.A expressed his concerns, saying:
“I am quite sick, and I have acquired wealth, yet I have no heirs except for one daughter. May I donate two-thirds of my wealth in charity?”
In response, RasulullahS.A.W advised him against such a course of action. HadhratSaad R.A persisted, proposing to donate half of his property, but RasulullahS.A.W again advised against it. Instead, RasulullahS.A.Wcounselled:
“A third! For a third is a significant portion. It is better for you to bequeath to your heirs than to leave them destitute. You will be rewarded for what you have spent for Allah’s pleasure, even as much as feeding your wife a morsel of food.”(Musnad Ahmad, H18759)
HadhratSheikhul Hadith MaulanaZakariya Sahib R.A expounds on this, asserting that during Rasulullah’sS.A.W stay in Abtah, he frequented the Haram Shareef to perform Tawaf around the Kaaba, as evidenced by numerous Ahadeeth. This practice is further supported by his visits to MakkahMukarramah for Tawaf during the nights of Mina.
Hence, it is improbable that he abstained from Tawaf during his stay in MakkahMukarramah. Additionally, RasulullahS.A.W delivered a sermon in Makkah on the 7th of ZulHijjah. Hence, we can deduce that while NabiS.A.W was residing at Abtah or Bathaa he continued visiting the Haram Shareef to perform Tawaf of the Baitullah. (Hajjatul Wada WaUmratunNabispg 91)
Travelling Towards Mina
Following this period, RasulullahS.A.W departed for Mina on Thursday the 8th of ZulHijjah, with his companions. The Sahaabah R.A who were not in the state of Ihram, made the intention of Ihram for Hajj from Abtah. Hadhrat Bilal R.A was with NabiS.A.W and he was sheltering the beloved of Allah with a cloth that was strung on piece of wood. Upon arrival in Mina, he offered the noon prayer.
That night, Surah Al-Mursalat was revealed to him. Hadhrat Abdullah IbnMas’ood R.A narrates:
While we were in the company of RasulullahS.A.W in a cave at Mina, Surah WalMursalat was revealed, and he recited it and I heard it (directly) from his mouth as soon as he recited its revelation. Suddenly a snake sprang at us and NabiS.A.W said (ordered us): “Kill it”. We ran to kill it, but it escaped quickly. RasulullahS.A.W said, “It has escaped your evil and you too have escaped its evil”.(SahihBukhari, Hadith No. 1733)
RasulullahS.A.W and the companions spent the night in Mina.
