KARACHI: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday underscored the urgent need to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and harmony across Pakistan, calling these values essential for building a peaceful, strong, and stable society.
In his message issued on the International Day of Tolerance, the Speaker said the world is witnessing increasing polarization and mistrust, making tolerance and dialogue more important than ever. “In today’s world, fostering understanding, dialogue, and cooperation through tolerance is a pressing need of our time,” he stated.
Ayaz Sadiq stressed that the true spirit of democracy lies in respecting differences of opinion. “Respect for dissent is the essence of democracy. Only through this approach can we achieve social harmony and political stability,” he said, urging both government and opposition to adopt a culture of dialogue, consultation, and restraint in the larger national interest.
The Speaker reaffirmed that Parliament is committed to promoting tolerance, fraternity, and mutual respect across the country. He noted that intolerance, prejudice, and extremism threaten national unity and must be confronted collectively. “It is imperative for the entire nation to unite against hatred,” he said.
Calling for a shift in political behavior, the Speaker appealed to leaders on both sides of the aisle to resolve differences through peaceful discussions rather than confrontation. He said Pakistan’s youth must be equipped with values such as patience, positive thinking, and mutual respect to build a more peaceful and prosperous future.
Highlighting Islam’s teachings on peace and humanity, Ayaz Sadiq said that following principles of tolerance, compassion, and justice is essential for countering division and extremism in society.
Expressing hope, the Speaker said that by strengthening bonds of brotherhood, harmony, and mutual respect, Pakistan can continue to move toward lasting peace, stability, and development.
The International Day of Tolerance is observed worldwide on November 16 each year to promote peaceful coexistence and respect across diverse communities.
