KARACHI: Taking breast cancer awareness beyond information and into practical action, Umeed by LADIESFUND, an initiative of Dawood Global Foundation, has continued to reach hundreds of women through its growing network of community-based breast health awareness and empowerment sessions. Its latest session at the SINA Saeedabad Clinic reached 88 women, adding to the programme’s expanding impact across Karachi and surrounding communities.
The session focused on equipping women with practical knowledge about breast health, breast self-awareness, recognising changes that may warrant medical attention and understanding the importance of early detection. By conducting these sessions through established community clinics such as SINA, Umeed by LADIESFUND brings essential health education into familiar and accessible settings, helping women overcome barriers to information and encouraging them to take a more active role in their wellbeing.
A distinctive feature of Umeed’s approach is its emphasis on practical learning and peer-to-peer awareness. Women are encouraged not only to understand the importance of breast health but also to share what they learn with their families and communities, creating a ripple effect that extends beyond each individual training session.
“Reaching 88 women at the SINA Saeedabad Clinic is another meaningful step in expanding breast cancer awareness at the community level. We sincerely thank Umeed by LADIESFUND, an initiative of Dawood Global Foundation, for its continued commitment to educating and empowering women about their breast health.” – Dr. Sabeen Shah, Chief Medical Officer, SINA
“The Umeed by LADIESFUND training at the SINA Saeedabad Clinic reflects our belief that every woman, regardless of where she lives or her circumstances, deserves access to breast health information. We are building awareness one community at a time and encouraging women to choose early detection, self-care and timely medical attention.” – Tara Uzra Dawood, Founder, LADIESFUND
“The continued expansion of Umeed by LADIESFUND’s breast cancer awareness and empowerment training through SINA Clinics is extremely encouraging. The session at the SINA Saeedabad Clinic reflects the strength of a partnership built around a simple but important idea: women deserve access to knowledge that can help them take charge of their health.” – Iqbal Adamjee
Adding a particularly personal and practical dimension to the programme, breast cancer survivor Fauzia Khuhro shared her experience and guided participants through a breast self-examination awareness technique using the clock method. By explaining how women can systematically become familiar with their breasts and identify changes that may require professional attention, Fauzia brought an important message of empowerment and solidarity to the session.
“Having experienced breast cancer myself, I understand how important awareness and timely action can be. I want women to feel comfortable understanding their own bodies and confident enough to seek medical advice when something feels different. Through the clock method, I showed participants a simple way to approach breast self-examination systematically, so they can become more familiar with their breast health. Sharing this knowledge is deeply personal to me because awareness can make a difference, and no woman should feel alone on this journey.” – Fauzia Khuhro, Breast Cancer Survivor
The continued collaboration between Umeed by LADIESFUND and SINA demonstrates how partnerships between healthcare providers, survivors and women’s empowerment initiatives can extend the reach of preventive health education. With hundreds of women already reached through its community outreach, Umeed by LADIESFUND remains committed to making breast health awareness more accessible, encouraging informed conversations and helping women recognise the importance of seeking timely professional medical care.
Through Umeed by LADIESFUND, Dawood Global Foundation continues to advance a simple but powerful message: knowledge empowers women, awareness encourages action, and every woman deserves the opportunity to prioritise her health.
