The term of the current National Assembly formed as a result of the 2018 general elections began on August 13, 2018 and will be dissolved on August 12, 2023 at 12 midnight after completing its five-year term. According to the Election Commission, if the assemblies are dissolved by August 12, then elections will be held by October 11,2023. The leadership of Muslim League and People’s Party have agreed on many things including the date of elections in Dubai, the interim prime minister and the cabinet. On the other hand, PDM-affiliated parties Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan and Balochistan National Party (Mengal Group) President Sardar Akhtar Mengal are demanding elections on the basis of the new census. MQM Pakistan is determined that we will not accept the elections based on the old census. Their objection is that discrimination has been created on the basis of language in Karachi, so the constituencies should be fixed before the elections. MQM wants the elections to be held if there is a delay of a few weeks or a couple of months, but the election should be transparent, based on new census, new constituencies and new voter lists. Senior lawyers of MQM are also working on a petition that if the Election Commission announces to hold elections based on the old census, they will not only approach the courts but also request that the elections be postponed by a few months. If this happens, there will be many secrets hidden in the background which will play an important role in postponing the elections. The Muslim League-N is trying to get Nawaz Sharif relief from the current judiciary and return to Pakistan before the elections. If this does not happen, then the elections will have to be moved to November or December. In this case, the importance of MQM’s petition will increase.
Nothing is impossible in the politics of Pakistan, sometimes such events happen that no one can even imagine. Imran Khan was the most popular leader of Pakistan after the separation from the government, but after May 9, the situation changed completely. PTI chief Imran Khan’s popularity after the end of his government, the way he made the narrative of the American conspiracy against him, must have increased. Imran Khan’s followers and sympathizers increased further when he was arrested but the events that happened after the arrest have completely changed the situation. After the national tragedy of May 9, not only PTI suffered irreparable damage, but those who were walking alongside IK also left their side. Imran Khan is stuck in the swamp of loneliness. His difficulties are increasing with every passing day, despite a million efforts, he is not able to get out of the crises, but the circle around him is getting narrower. There is a long list of cases that he is facing. Especially the 90-million-pound case, May 9 case, cipher case, foreign funding case and Tosha Khana cases are traps from which any trap can be put around Imran Khan’s neck.
After the formation of the caretaker government in August, the chances of Imran Khan’s arrest will increase, maybe he will be disqualified before the elections. Until Imran Khan is arrested and his disqualification is decided, the final elections are not seen. The current Chief Justice cannot be expected to give any harsh decision against Imran Khan, so the government is waiting for a new Chief Justice. Muslim League wants Nawaz Sharif to return home before the election and conduct the election campaign. This will be possible only if they get justice from the Supreme Court. The federal government has removed all obstacles preventing Justice Qazi Faez Isa from becoming the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The government petition filed against Justice Qazi Faez Isa has been dismissed, the court has said that curative review applications are not admissible. It should be remembered that the former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government had sent a review request against Justice Qazi Faiz Isa in the reference sent to the Supreme Judicial Council by President Arif Alvi. The Supreme Court has dismissed the reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa, thus the last obstacle to Justice Faiz Isa becoming the Chief Justice has also been removed. Imran Khan is afraid that after Justice Qazi Faez Isa becomes the Chief Justice, the series of revenge actions will start against him and the decisions of the courts will come against him.
In the 75-year history of Pakistan, the breakup of political parties and the creation of a new party is no longer a thing. In the past, there has been the work of breaking up the People’s Party, Muslim League and MQM and creating new parties out of it PTI is also suffering from a breakdown in the traditional way. Central leaders who broke away from PTI have formed their own separate parties. Jahangir Khan Tareen and Aleem Khan, whose services were prominent for Pakistan PTI government formation after the 2018 elections. In today’s political scenario, their importance has increased more than before. Jahangir Tareen started a series of political contacts after May 9 and within a few weeks he founded the ‘Isthakam Pakistan Party’ along with the leaders of Punjab who broke away from PTI. While in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, former Chief Minister of PTI Pervaiz Khattak has announced a new party called Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians. Here the question arises that the political parties born a few months before the elections will prove to be a challenge for PTI? Will she be able to divide Imran Khan’s vote bank?
Jahangir Tareen and Pervez Khattak also want to get some time to gain foothold in the field, they also want to postpone the elections. On the other hand, his close leaders connected to Imran Khan are hiding or wanted by the courts in some cases. In this situation, even if elections are held and Imran Khan is not disqualified, it will be very difficult for the PTI to contest the elections. In such a case, Imran Khan will have only one option to stand for all the seats in the National Assembly because in the current situation, it will be difficult if not impossible to fight an action on the PTI ticket and win. Or Imran Khan can boycott the election. After the disintegration of the PTI, now Imran Khan is not ready to participate in the elections immediately. In this situation, why would any politician spend crores of rupees in an election campaign where defeat seems certain. Nothing can be said about when the elections will be held until Imran Khan’s political future is decided.
