KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday departed for Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to participate in the historic Gaza Peace Summit on the special invitation of Donald Trump and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The high-stakes meeting aims to finalize a ceasefire agreement and lay the foundation for lasting peace in Gaza after months of devastating conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. He will attend the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement, which is expected to bring an end to the ongoing Israeli assault, facilitate the withdrawal of forces, ensure the safe return of displaced Palestinians, and pave the way for reconstruction.
The summit is being attended by several prominent global leaders including the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and other Arab and international dignitaries. It is seen as the culmination of intense diplomatic efforts during the recent session of the United Nations General Assembly to secure a lasting ceasefire and peace framework for Gaza.
Pakistan’s participation reaffirms its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. Islamabad views the summit as a critical diplomatic turning point to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and restore stability in the Middle East.
