Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally spoken out regarding the recent rumors about his alleged marriage to renowned tennis player Sania Mirza. Last month, multiple news outlets reported that the sports stars were set to tie the knot, sparking widespread speculation and the circulation of photoshopped images on social media.
Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, had previously dismissed the rumors, stating that the two had never even met. “All of this is rubbish. She hasn’t even met him,” he told journalists on June 21.
Despite the denials, several Indian websites, including Masala, Times Now, and Zoom, continued to report that Sania and Shami were planning to marry on August 20, 2024.
After staying silent for about a month, Shami finally addressed the rumors, expressing his bewilderment at seeing doctored images of himself with Sania. “I believe that memes are meant for fun, but if it is related to someone’s life, then one should make memes with a lot of consideration,” he said, emphasizing the importance of sharing news from verified sources.
In an interview with a YouTuber, Shami described the situation as “weird and done advertently for some lame fun.” He warned those spreading false news, stating, “If you have the guts, then speak from verified pages, then I will tell you.”
Shami highlighted the ease with which people can spread rumors and the harm it can cause. He urged social media users to act responsibly and avoid disseminating unfounded stories. “You first work hard, achieve success, raise your level and help someone only then I will believe you are a good person,” he remarked.
The Indian cricketer’s comments serve as a reminder of the impact of fake news and the importance of verification before sharing information online.
