It was indeed a colorful simple but impressive ceremony of book launching of Dr Jameel Ahmed “Sipahgiri to Sifaratkari” in Karachi Gymkhana jointly sponsored by Adbi Library & Pakistan Print & Electronic Media Foundation. The hall was packed by intellectuals and important personalities. Chief guest was Lt Gen Moinuddin Haider former Governor of Sind and Interior Minister of Pakistan. Besides Sirajuddin Aziz Wafaqi Banking Mohtsab, Barrister Shahida Jameel former Law Minister and President Gymkhana Club were also present. Attending this launch was a privilege it was more than a literary event; it was a celebration of service, experience, and the art of diplomacy.
Jameel Ahmed’s versatile career path from the discipline of a soldier to the integrity of a police officer, and finally, the diplomacy of an ambassador. His journey from Sipahgiri (soldiering) to Sifaratgiri (diplomacy) symbolizes the evolution of service from defending borders to representing the nation’s interests abroad. This is autobiography of a soldier to Diplomat that started from a humble start as an officer in Pakistan army and later on Police and ending as a successful diplomat. The start to finish has been purely on merit and merit and merit. The book explains how Dr Jameel wore five crowns. He feels proud to establish his credentials that was converted in to great success story. His short lived military career with outstanding performance made him to join Civil Service Academy. He was fortunate to have been associated with federal and strategic duties. Became part of UN peacekeeping missions, lastly serving as Ambassador in Libya, UAE and Malta. He has been frank in expressing his dissent to senior police officials to disobey unlawful orders and receiving full cooperation from Governor of Sind. It provides a firsthand account of Pakistan’s representation abroad, particularly in Libya and the UAE, offering insights into diplomacy, challenges, and soft power. Author’s transition from military and police service to diplomacy reflects Pakistan’s institutional diversity  how experiences from internal security can inform international relations. His story can serve as an inspiration to young officers about continuous learning and service beyond one’s initial profession. Now let us move forward and see how the intellectuals view this book. The first speaker was Sirajuddin Aziz a renowned banker who served abroad and held high profile positions in Pakistan, at present employed as Wafaqi Mohatsab Banking. The first and the last speakers always remain at a disadvantage position but this myth was broken by Sirajuddin who had fully studied the book and had special markings was in full command to express his views. He very prudently covered his youth and all the hats he wore with remarkable results. He did mention authors few adventures and lauded his vocabulary in remembering thousands of verses by heart. He mainly touched those traits that changed the personality of the author. Barrister Shahida Jameel mostly spoke about our foreign relations with neighbors and Pakistan’s changing role and did appreciate efforts of Jameel Ahmed
Chief Guest Lt Gen Moinuddin Haider carried the day by delivering excellent speech and it was applauded by the audience. He praised the achievements of Jameel Ahmed who was lucky to have worked under him. His timely advise when he was at the peak of his frustration proved Amrat Dhara for him. He narrated his experience in dealing with Afghanistan’s ruler Mula Umar and concluded by saying that Jameel’s life is a shining example of devotion, versatility and integrity. Few individuals can claim to have served their nation it such depth and diversity from the disciplined ranks of the Pakistan Army to the demanding responsibilities of the Police Service, and later, as a seasoned diplomat representing Pakistan abroad with grace and wisdom. His journey reflects the essence of true service to protect, to uphold justice, and to promote Pakistan’s image on the international stage. Whether in uniform or in diplomatic circles, he carried with him the same spirit of patriotism, humility and professionalism.
His transition from the military to the police service was marked by the same determination and integrity. Each chapter of his professional life reflects an unwavering commitment to the ideals of service, justice, and national pride. But what makes his journey truly inspiring is the evolution from” Sipahgiri” soldiering to “Sifaratgiri”-diplomacy. Serving as Pakistan’s ambassador in Libya and the United Arab Emirates Jameel Ahmed carried the flag of our nation with dignity and wisdom. His diplomatic efforts strengthened Pakistan’s image abroad, earning respect for his professionalism, insight, and humility. Sipahgiri sey Sifaratgiri is not just an autobiography, it is a chronicle of experience that blend courage with diplomacy, discipline with empathy, and action with reflection. The book offers valuable lessons for young officers and diplomats, reminding us that service to the nation is not confined to one institution or one role.
